Overview

Clean Ocean Action (COA) is a regional, broad-based coalition of conservation, environmental, fishing, boating, diving, student, surfing, women’s, business, civic, and community groups. Established in 1984, COA's mission is to improve the degraded quality of the waters off the New York/New Jersey coast using research, education, and citizen action. COA is a leading state, regional, and national voice working to protect the ocean. Some of Clean Ocean Action's successful campaigns include: Reducing plastics and litter that pollute waterways, spoil beaches, and harm or kill marine life including turtles, whales, seals, birds, and fish; improving programs and laws that protect public health at swimming beaches; Stopping harmful industrialization, including oil and gas activities; Reducing toxins in waterways to ensure fish and shellfish are free of pollution and safe to eat; Educating and motivating people – from the small to the tall – to protect the ocean.
