Overview
The Municipal Excess Liability Joint Insurance Fund is a self-insurance pool providing excess property, liability & workers’ compensation claims for local Joint Insurance Funds (JIFs). These local JIFs provide the primary coverage for member towns, utility authority, housing authorities and fire districts totaling 604 member entities. The MEL JIF and its affiliated local JIFs are also public entities. For over three decades, Joint Insurance Funds have modernized risk management for New Jersey local government as well as saving tax dollars and protecting the bottom line for New Jersey’s extraordinary hometowns.
