Overview
STAR’s Tech is a South Korea–based climate-tech startup that upcycles marine waste, with a primary focus on invasive starfish, into valuable and sustainable products. Starfish cause ecological and economic harm in Asian coastal ecosystems, and we transform this overlooked resource into eco-friendly solutions for infrastructure, agriculture, and industry.
Our flagship product line is de-icers enhanced with starfish-derived additives rich in amino acids and saponins. These significantly reduce corrosion on roads, bridges, and vehicles while maintaining strong melting performance. This protects infrastructure, lowers maintenance costs, and reduces environmental impact. We are currently working with U.S. and Canadian transportation agencies on pilot programs to validate performance in real-world conditions.
We also produce liquid fertilizer concentrates and biostimulants enriched with marine amino acids and saponins. These improve nutrient uptake, soil health, and plant resilience, providing farmers with a renewable alternative to synthetic inputs. In addition, we are exploring applications in specialty chemicals and personal care by extracting calcium carbonate and bioactive compounds from starfish, enabling a “full upcycle” model with zero waste.
Through partnerships with global corporations, universities, and government agencies, STAR’s Tech is scaling internationally. Our mission is to provide essential materials that enhance safety, sustainability, and productivity, proving that marine waste can become a foundation for the climate-tech economy.
